Greatest

My friend Brian and I were having a discussion of the greatest athletes of "our" generation.  He suggested Tiger Woods, of course this was before Tiger choked away the PGA Championship.  I would like to submit Usain Bolt.  Bolt just won Gold in the 100 and 200 meters, setting World Records in both races at the recent World Championships.

Even more impressive, this race a couple weeks ago in the rain:

Fish Are Our Friends Not Food

At least that's the message that Grand Have visitors will get if PETA has their way.  PETA has recently applied to take over the Grand Haven, MI lighthouses along the pier where the Grand River empties into Lake Michigan.
"We want to renovate the Grand Haven lights as a memorial to the billions of fish killed annually by sport fishermen, as well as for their flesh (commercial fishing industry)," said Lindsey Rajt, manager of PETA's campaigns department. "We also want to make it a fun and educational place."
Well at least they want to make it fun and educational.  Is it any wonder that no sane or rational person takes PETA seriously?

Buyer Beware

New super-thin laptop from MSI looks promising, but there's got to be a better delivery method:

Joy Unspeakable

I wanted to post this over the weekend, but life intervened.  Many of you may have seen it, but it's worth watching again here.

Driving to Distraction

Mike Wittmer, receiving inspiration from Maureen Dowd (enough said, right), says driving while texting or while talking on your cell phone is at its core, sinful.  The good Doctor argues that:
insofar as participating in activities which endanger others is not showing love to neighbor, it is a sin to drive while texting or dialing a cell phone (especially if you’re driving an SUV).
Now I have to conclude that this would not be limited to cell phones.  Anything that causes us to be distracted while driving would be "participating in activities which endanger others".  What about eating while driving?  What about GPS units, or ladies applying makeup, or even listening to the radio.  Should we even carrying on a conversation with other passengers in the vehicle?

What about Mom's with young kids?  It would seem to me that this would force Mom's to REALLY be Stay-At-Home Mom's or risk sinning on a daily basis!

So what do you think?  Is DWD (Driving While Distracted) a sin?  If it is, I have a friend who could never drive again.

Revenge Thy Name is YouTube

Ever wonder what happens to your luggage at the airport....Dave Carrol didn't either until he and his band were waiting to exit their plane to make a connecting flight in Chicago. A woman seated nearby cried out: “My god they’re throwing guitars out there”. Dave Carroll soon discovered that his $3500 Taylor guitar was severely damaged!! After exhausting EVERY avenue available Mr. Carroll was told by United Airlines that they would NOT compensate him for his loss!!! UNITED DIDN'T DENY THAT THEY WERE RESPONSIBLE - they simply refused to do anything about it. Dave took action the only way a musician can...in song:

Which Bible Character Are You?

Feel the need to identify with a Bible character like some sort of Facebook quiz?  It's not necessarily a good idea:
There is a long history of just such usage. The pilgrim fathers who came to America read their situation into the Bible (or the Bible into their situation) with the result that white pilgrims were seen as fulfilling the role of the Israelites in this, the Promised Land, while native Americans were cast in the role of Canaanites. Thus generations of Joshuas arose feeling Biblically justified in the genocide of America’s native population. Some of that Biblical reading continues to echo in the popular imagination to this day. It was Bad theology in the 17th century and it is bad theology today. Stated in a fundamental way: you are not a Bible character.

This past week saw a sitting governor confessing his infidelity, choosing to stay in office, and reflecting out loud to his cabinet members about the story of King David. King David was, of course, guilty of adultery (and in the Biblical account it cost him the life of his child). It is a story of great repentance and internal suffering as well as the mercy of God.

But it is not a pattern story to which individuals are invited for their own comparisons.

An Iranian student protester in Ohio State gear:

Unfortunately this means that the Protesters will enjoy an early advantage only to finally succumb to the faster and deeper Iranian Special Forces.
