Sermon Notes

My wife has been doing an excellent job of training our older two to take sermon notes.  I'm not much of a note-taker, I never really developed the skill.  In school I always borrowed some cute girls notes, copied them and then asked her out.  Eventually I just married a cute girl who also takes good notes so I'm basically set for life.  Besides what did I need sermon notes for, the Preacher sat across from me at lunch every Sunday.  I always got a Postgame wrap up.

Our 7-yr old's reading and writing is a work in progress so we encouraged her to try to draw something to represent what she heard.  It could be a word, phrase or anything that grabbed her attention.  The idea being to get her to listen.

Last night I shared our Daughter's notes from the sermon on Sunday (References our mine):

  • Wised (wisdom) is like ABC gum (Ecclesiastes 2:12)
  • End up in coffin (Ecclesiastes 2:14)
Her brother, on the other hand, has devloped a template for our current series on Idols.  He simply fills in the blanks.  His mother thinks it's lazy, he thinks it's efficiant.  Here's his template:

  • It's not <blank> that's the problem, it's what you do with <blank> and make <blank> more important than God.
Make's a Father proud.

Thanks Andrew, John and Brian for a good series and keeping my kids engaged.

Jackson's template is pretty good. If we had that up front we may have used it. See what he can give us on Revelation and Jeremiah.
